Electoral Registers for Eastern Essex Until 1918 only house owners and tenants paying a considerable rent were allowed to vote. From 1918 all males over 31 and married women over 30 could vote and it was not until 1928 that all women over 21 were entitled to vote. Even so electoral registers are a great tool for genealogists as they were normally taken every year and fill in the gaps between the 10 year census. Some of the old registers are available online including some on this website. Some details are available at Burnham Museum but the best local source for electoral records is Essex Records Office Essex Records office keeps the below electoral records that apply to the villages of Eastern Essex. Sadly a few of the early years are missing Records for the years 1918 and 1929 have been digitalised and are available to view online.
