A large village about 2 miles from the sea in a parish extending to the coast, and containing much rich land. There is a reading room.

The Hall near the church is an ancient brick house. It has been, with other farms, in the possession of St Paul's, London from the time of the Saxon King Ethelred.

There is a decoy in this parish on the Marsh Farm.
