War Memorial Bradwell Bay Airfield
Bradwell Bay was used as a fighter base from 1941 to 1945 .
The first squadron to use the airfield was 418 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force. During the war Bradwell was home to 25 different squadrons flying Boston's , Mosquito's, Beuafighters, Typhoons, Tempests, Hurricanes, Spitfires, Mustang, Warwick and Walrus aircraft.
The Bradwell pubs echoed to the voices of Canadians, Australians and Czechs who all came to know this quiet corner of Essex. Many gave their lives during sorties from the airfiled.
A memorial has been erected at the site of the airfield to comemorate the airmen who gave their lives.
