Stansgate Detachment

Coastguards used and lived on a converted mortar vessel moored at Steeple in the current site of the Marconi Sailing Club.

Stansgate detachment were part of the larger Blackwater Division.

The Watch vessel has been refered to in naval records as watch vessel 4 but pictured with the caption as watch vessel 21.

The 240 ton Brig 'Richmond' served as the watch vessel until January 1866 when it was sold by tender to be replaced by the Frolic.
